A unique 2 Day CPD session for equine therapists. £175 including lunch and refreshments. 12 hours CPD certificates issued. The aim of the session is to provide an insight into the treatment and rehabilitation needs of the driving/carriage/film/trick horse.

On Day One Daniel Naprous will give lectures and practical demonstrations on the topic of his International film and competition horses, covering the musculoskeletal challenges that they face in their activities.
Lecture and demo topics will include:
Selecting the carriage horse – strengths and weaknesses. Conformation. Character. Muscle development, tone, condition. Importing ready made horses. What happens on the continent. Which breeds are best for driving and for what. Why Fresians make up the new team. Characteristics of varying driving breeds.
Carriages and their features. What makes them special.
A trot up in hand to show the type selected/needed for competing at an elite level.
What 4 in hand driving involves. The competition phases. What the horses need to be capable of doing.
How carriage horses differ from riding horses in general. Different challenges/issues?
Training the young, ridden and unridden driving horses. Challenges. Time scales. Any cross training or specific exercises.
How the team positions are chosen. What types/movement action makes for each position.
How the stallions cope with close contact with other stallions while training and competing.
The variety of equine personalities and what makes a film horse.
Common injuries/strains. What sorts of problems develop over time.
Maintenance care – what signs to look for. What they need to help them perform at their best.
Explanation of driving harness.
How a team is tacked up in harness for a driving training session explaining contact areas on the horse that are prone to abrasions.
Demonstration of a team being driven. How they are warmed up. How they move. The demands on their muscles.
Demonstration of a trick or stunt riding demo. What they do. What the challenges are to their way of going, for example one sidedness. Which type is desirable. What they normally need to do. What the training challenges are in terms of what muscles they need to develop for this.
Film work. How film horses are trained and selected for the variety of jobs they have to do.
On Day Two Caroline Lindsay will demo a selection of soft tissue treatment techniques that are specific to the driving and/or trick/film horse that can be applied as maintenance treatments. The group will then work in sub-groups to practice the techniques on Daniel's Devil's Horsemen equines.
